The Department of Materials Science and Technology (MST) of the University of Crete, announces a call for a limited number of PhD candidate positions for the fall semester of the academic year 2020-2021.
The PhD Program requires daily participation in full time status. The main requirements for successful completion of a doctorate in Materials Science and Technology are the completion of General Graduate Examination (prelims) and PhD dissertation. Duration of doctoral studies is three years minimum.
The focus of the PhD Program is specialization and conduct of innovative research in cutting-edge fields of materials science and technology at a highly competitive international level, leading to publications in journals of high impact factor. As part of their training, PhD candidates will assist in the instruction of undergraduate courses. Proven knowledge of English is mandatory.

Eligible applicants should have a master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related science discipline from a Greek institution or a foreign institution recognized as equivalent. Exceptional applicants without master’s degrees can be admitted in the program but only after a well-documented MST department decision and with the extra requirement to complete a structured program of graduate courses (PhD studies duration is four years minimum in this case).

* Candidates with degrees obtained outside Greece need to follow the procedure of ratification of the Greek state. This is a standard procedure and they may contact the secretariat of MST for details.
** Recommendation letters should be sent directly to the Secretary of MST or to the Graduate Studies Committee.
The application submission deadline is set for September 4, 2020. The selection process will be conducted by a committee, which will announce dates for interviews. Candidates residing outside Crete are not required to participate in person. They can be interviewed via teleconference.
