Born in 1966, Veria, Greece. B.Sc. (1988) Chemical engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Master’s (1991) in Chemical/Biochemical engineering and protein biochemistry (jointly Institut Pasteur, Paris and University of Delaware USA, work on formation of inclusion bodies of overexpressed proteins when produced in large scale in cell factories, funded by Fulbright Fellowship). Ph.D (1993) Chemical/Biochemical engineering and protein biochemistry (jointly Institut Pasteur, Paris and University of Delaware USA, work on inclusion bodies of overexpressed proteins when produced in large scale in cell factories and mechanistic analysis of the formation of a large multienzyme complex involved in degradation of celulose, the cellulosome, funded by EU fellowship. Postodoctoral associate (1993-1994) Protein folding, ribosome-chaperone associations (Institut Pasteur with Prof. Michel Goldberg, funded by EU postdoc fellowship). Postdoctoral Associate (1994-1998) Protein import and mitochondria biogenesis (Biozentrum, University of Basel, with Prof. Jeff Schatz, funded by HFSPO, EMBO, Roche and Swiss National Foundation postdoc fellowships). Establishement of independent group, Lecturer, senior Lecturer and Lister fellow (1998-2003) mitochondria biogenesis; chaperone-mediated and oxidative protein folding (University of Manchester, UK, work supported by Lister Fellowship, Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, MRC career establishment grant, Leverhulme Trust, Royal Society, EU). Military sevice (2000-2001). Assistant Professor and Group Leader (2003-2007) mitochondria biogenesis and cellular biochemistry (Univerisity of Crete, Chemistry Dept., and IMBB-FORTH).
