Abstract

Chemical dynamics aims to understand the mechanisms of chemical reactions at the atomic level, by measuring the structure and energy states of reactants, intermediates, and products. In this PhD thesis, we will focus on the dynamics of molecules and materials following light excitation. More specifically, we intend to study: 1. Multiphoton excitation of small molecules (e.g. CH2BrI, CHBr3, CHI3) using velocity map ion/photoelectron imaging to determine the contribution of Rydberg, ion-pair, valence and ionic states in the excitation & dissociation dynamics of the molecule. 2. The possibility to use photoelectron circular dichroism to probe and quantify chiral molecule enantiomers (e.g. limonene, fenchone, camphor, aminoacids, etc.) in mixtures. 3. The structural changes following photoexcitation of gas-phase molecules (e.g. C2F2I2, CCl4, CBr2I2) or/and solid-state materials, using the time-resolved electron diffraction
